Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Representatives of the Bengal Provincial Hindu Mahasabha convened a press conference at the Calcutta Press Club on Tuesday, announcing their unwavering support for BJP candidates contesting in all 42 parliamentary constituencies in the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Emphasizing the alignment of BJP with traditional Hindu values, Mahasabha officials cited the Modi government's effective handling of key demands, including the establishment of the Ram temple, revocation of Article 370, bolstering national defense, and enhancing India's global stature. The endorsement extends particularly to Dr. Anirban Gangopadhyay, a BJP-backed candidate from the Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency, known for his association with the late Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, the founder of Bengal Provincial Hindu Mahasabha.
Key figures of the organization, including editors Ramnand Chattopadhyay, Monindra Chandra Nandi, NC Chattopadhyay, and linguist Suniti Kumar Chattopadhyay, affirmed unanimous support for BJP candidates across West Bengal. Stressing BJP as the primary political entity championing Hindu causes, Mahasabha highlighted its historical advocacy for Hindus, particularly during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. Additionally, they highlighted the organization's humanitarian efforts, such as aid provided to COVID-19 pandemic victims. The conference concluded with a strong endorsement of BJP as the preferred choice for safeguarding Hindu interests in West Bengal, with hopes for victory in 35 constituencies.
